You can never go wrong with stripes, it literally go with everything! See how I rocked it in the past here, here and here.

Such a rustic piece but yet if styled, it can look very chic. I love adding my chambray shirt for the extra bit of edge in an outfit (post coming up). See how I've rocked the denim shirt in the past here and here.

Probably one of the most underrated wardrobe basics. I love how it gives the effortless but chic look. It also helps that with turtlenecks you can avoid accessorizing. I've styled turtle necks here, here and here.

Great for adding colour and print to an outfit. It also mixes well with leopard print and stripes but don't over-do it as I mentioned in my post here.

Blazers are the perfect item to tie outfits together and give you the appearance of looking more put together. If you just want to be comfy, throw a blazer over a pair of jeans and it instantly transforms the casual look.

Leather jackets are great for adding edge to an outfit thus by making you look cooler. I've been on the hunt for a good and affordable pair for a while now but I'm yet to find one.

Every girl needs a little black dress! One great thing about this item is that they are versatile but simple. You can layer items over like a blazer or shirt and you can also wear the dress as a top. I really need to invest in more pairs. See how I rocked my only pair here.

It looks great on most body-shapes, especially with the right fit. I say get it in every colour while you’re at it, since it is quite easy to style.

This is a very simple piece, perfect for a laid back outfit but can be dressed up. I recommend them in blue, white and black.

Looking for comfort? Then try the boyfriend jean. Thrift stores are great places to find pairs, I found mine in one. I love the distressed look on bf jeans but you could always DIY (do it yourself).

You all know I love my trousers! See how I rocked them here and here (look-book). I love how simple and elegant they are. I usually thrift mine.

I previously styled this peplum top in my monochrome series but this time I decided to pair it with these cropped skinny jeans. This outfit is pretty simple on its own but I just love how the scarf makes it pop! I previously rocked this scarf here in a similar outfit.

Now onto to you, scarf or no scarf?

You all know that I am a confirmed braidaholic (if that's even a word). I have been wearing braids for most of my adult life now, so today I will be sharing some tips on how to care for braids.

how I care for braids,

Let's begin!

1. To avoid damage to your hairline go for a less voluminous look. I love a full head of braids but they are sometimes heavier, harder to style and also cause hair loss.

2. For those of you who love full braids as much as I do, I recommend using Expression hair as it is very light and easier to carry.

3. When braiding try to leave out your baby hairs. Though, this sometimes prevents your braids from looking fresh which is why I usually skip this step but a little hair gel can do wonders (Speaking to myself).

4. As much as I love playing around with different styles, it is advisable to avoid that. Braids are meant to be protective hairstyles after all which is why I try to wear my hair down more often to preserve my hairline

5. Another way to preserve the hairline is to mix cornrows with individual braids like in the picture below.

6. Oil your scalp as often as possible to prevent it from getting dry, then causing dandruff. I use Soulmate which makes my braids soft and hair well-oiled. Coconut oil is also a good choice

7. I've come across a lot of people with bad odours coming from their braids (I've been guilty too). These smells are caused when sweat doesn't dry. My advice is to blow-dry or air-dry your braids after workouts and avoid up-dos which cause a build-up of sweat.

8. To prevent damaging your hairline while working out, put your hair in a loose ponytail or better yet use a hairnet.

9. It's advisable to wash your braids twice a week if you intend to keep it longer than a month. I usually don't wear my braids for more than a month (props of doing your own hair) so I usually skip this step.

10. Try not to wear your braids for longer than 6 weeks so as to avoid tangles in the hair which could then lead to hair loss.

Now onto you, how do you care for your braids?
Ladies and gentlemen (possibly) it's time for another look-book! Look-books are something I look forward to and enjoy but since I cut down on my shopping, coming up with ideas has not been easy. However I got inspired, so Today I will be showing you three ways of styling these awesome pants which were thrifted by the way. To see how these pants were previously styled check out here and here.

LOOK 1: Casual Affair

This look is perfect for a casual outing like shopping with the girls or a lunch date. A simple change to heels would make this outfit perfect for church or a more fancy affair. I simply paired my white T-shirt with a scarf and added my leopard print flats (thrifted) for an additional pop of print.

LOOK 2: Retro Corporate Chic

This look is obviously from another era, I'm not sure which one though. Believe it or not but this entire outfit with the exception of the shoes and bag is thrifted. The combination of the structured vintage blazer and trousers create a men's inspired retro/ vintage look. Ideally this outfit would be worn to work.

LOOK 3: Date Night

I have featured this top on the blog several times but I usually wear it backwards. This time around I decided to wear it normally lol. To accessorize I added a simple necklace which I barely wear and  went for this lovely printed purse. As the name implies, this look would be perfect for a date night.

I love head-wraps! They offer the perfect pop of print and colour to basic outfits. Not to mention I feel more African when I rock them lol, guess you could say I'm paying homage to my roots. Anyways, today I'm sharing some of my pins from Pinterest to inspire you.

I do not claim ownership of any of these images.

Looking at these picture I can't help but smile. There was a time in my life when my clothes used to fit me differently, lol I could not even take a picture wearing this skirt without pushing my hips to the side to emphasize my curves (here). Sure I have gained a couple pounds and have gone up a size but my self-confidence still remains. Which brings me to my next point
"true self-confidence comes from within, it should not be based on what others think or the way you look but in the way you feel about yourself".
(Galatians 2:20)

This is the last outfit of the monochrome series, it was fun but I'm looking forward to rocking colours again. If there one thing to take away from this it's the importance of wardrobe basics (post coming up). Now, for this outfit I paired my favorite pencil skirt with a basic white T-shirt. I then added a statement belt, a pop of colour and my lace-up booties for that extra edge (as seen here, here and here). I would rock this to a date night, depending on the guy though.
