Outfit details coming up

I fell flat on my ass yesterday. As I laid there on the ground, I couldn't help but laugh at my clumsiness and reason for falling which was my craving for street fried yam (my favorite food). While people were offering sympathies and help I just kept laughing as I couldn't remember the last time I fell but I got up.

This got me really thinking about how falling relates to certain things in life. I'll be sharing five things to note.

1. In life, when going after things we desire, failure is inevitable. I wanted fried yam and yes I got it which led to my unfortunate fall but I still got what I wanted.

2. I got up after the fall. I won't lie though, it was tempting to just lay there and feel pathetic and sad at myself but the important thing is I got up.

3. My body hurt afterwards too. Failure hurts but this should only remind us that we are humans and its okay to make mistakes.

4. I kept laughing at myself during the entire situation. Its okay to laugh at your short comings, stop taking things too seriously. Plus laughing or smiling about certain things can help in easing the pain and embarrassment.

5. When I fell various people rushed to my aid while others sympathized with me. This is a reminder that we have amazing support systems who are waiting and willing to help out. And if you feel like your alone, don't worry God is everywhere and he is waiting for you to turn to him.

"Draw near to me and I (God) will draw nearer to you." (James 4:8 NKJV)

I'm sure you're all thinking wow, all this from a fall? Well what can I say lol, it was an inspiring fall hence the post title.  Stop by next week for another topic.

Hey guys, how are you doing?

So for those of you who don't know, I take my own blog pictures most times. When I started blogging my friends were my photographers but after graduating, my elder brother became my sole photographer. Now before my move from Thailand I made sure to invest in a Tripod and that was probably the wisest decision I've made.

Truth is I do miss having a photographer as this saves time and there are certain limitations that come with self photography but a bloggers got to do what a bloggers got to do. At the end of the day I know what I want and there is an independence that comes with taking my own pictures. So my number one advice to any newbie blogger is to invest in a Tripod stand.

In this post I will be addressing frequently asked questions in relation to my blog photography.

FAQ

1. What camera do you use?
Well I use a Canon Powershot Sx 510 HS. I purchased it for about $300 in 2014. It's an SLR camera and I either use Live mode or Auto.

2. What Tripod Model do you use?
I use a tripod from Deawa which I got for about $30 right before leaving Thailand. The quality is quite average as I went for the most budget friendly one for my very rich pocket then.

3. What are the necessary essentials needed?
You would need a camera (of course), tripod, battery, SD card and the cloth for cleaning the lense ( don't know what it's called)

4. How do you take your own pictures?
I use the self timer mode on my tripod then set it to take three shots after ten seconds. Of course you can imagine that I shuffle back and forth while doing this.

5. What application do you use to edit your pictures?
I'm not one to overly edit my pictures but on a computer I used adobe Photoshop. I learnt the basics via Youtube tutorial videos. Now on my phone I use PicsArt which has some pretty cool filters that I recently discovered.

6. How long does it take you?
I take about 3-4 outfit posts in one day, so this takes me about 2-3 hours depending on the lighting, location and my overall mood. The picture down below is how I gear up when going for my blog photography. A bag with my blog outfits and my tripod stand of course.

7. What photography tips would you give to a newbie?
I'm obviously still learning but I've come a long way from my first pictures (here) to my most recent pictures (here) but I'd say patience is key. Walls are your best friend too, they simplify the whole struggle with getting the right angles, see (here) and (here). Also a good filter can do wonders for a photo.

If you have any more questions regarding my photography or blogging in general then leave a comment down below. Let's make this a new segment on the blog shall we?

Till next time!

Hey guys, how are you all doing. Welcome to the new week, its going to be great, filled with blessings and so much joy, let's speak things into existence shall we.

Now, I've come to realize that happiness is a choice. I mean this past week was not easy but whenever I felt like sinking into unhappiness, I would look into the mirror and smile. You know that saying, fake it till you make it, well it applies to happiness too.

I don't know, but just looking at the joy in these pictures make me happy and hopeful of the future. I remember this day quite distinctly actually, I was so excited that I finally had the chance to take pictures after the rain took a break.

You might remember this plaid blue midi skirt from this look here, well I decided to bring back the skirt in a causal look. I paired the skirt with this pink stripe crop top and white sneakers for comfort.

How do you stay happy on not so happy days?

This life sometimes, no one knows what the future holds. You can be here one moment and gone the next. Life is all about risks and taking chances. Makes you just wonder why we can't just exist?

The other day we received very tragic news that one of our colleagues who is also a NYSC Corper died on the road while travelling home. I'm not even going to pretend that I knew him or that we were close, he was a nice fellow and we often exchanged pleasantries but this really got me thinking about a lot of things in life. I can never understand why God allows certain things to happen. Death has a way of making you question certain things in life.

We tend to take so many things for granted at times. We travel all the time yet, nothing happens to Us. We sleep and wake up everyday. We can breath, talk, walk but yet it is never enough. We just want to keep making that money or chasing the next greener pastures. Though I wonder why bother if nobody knows tomorrow.

Death sucks, but it's just a reminder that every day we have to live is an opportunity that we must never take for granted. Sure, life may not be perfect but you are Alive. You have the chance to do anything with your destiny.

Please guys lets learn to make the most of every opportunity before the thief called death steals it away from us. Every day of life is an opportunity to do something great, please lets not waste it.

"The dead cannot sing praises to the Lord, for they have gone into the silence of the Grave"
(Psalm 115:17 NLT)

RIP C

Hey beautiful people, how are we all doing? Wow July has flown by way too fast. I'll soon be rounding up with my NYSC program blogged about here. Not a hundred percent sure what's next but I'll go where the money and opportunity takes me. By the way guys your girl is looking for a job in any related media field, radio, TV, or print. Hook a sister up!

So the other day I had to reassemble my portable wardrobe. After searching for the manual, I decided to forgo it as I felt it was wasting my time but the truth is I didn't search hard enough. Now after struggling for several hours I ended up with a funny looking wardrobe completely different from the one in the picture. Feeling disappointed and dissatisfied I decided to properly search for the manual. Now when I used the manual, I easily worked my way to a perfect wardrobe just like the one in the picture.

Now why am I talking about how I assembled a wardrobe? Well this got me thinking about life. God gives us the manual to life through his word but we tend to neglect it thinking that we can handle things on our own.  But then we end up stuck in situations that make us unhappy and we blame God for it.

"People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord" (Proverbs 19:3 NLT). If we only make him our first option, rely on him, and listen to him then we would save ourselves so much heartache.
Those who trust in me will never be put to shame" (Isaiah 49:23b NLT)

Now onto the outfit, I've always loved denim skirts because they are perfect for those days when NEPA is unfaithful. I received this pair from Shein, the item came in less than three weeks. Although I do wish the skirt was longer, I absolutely love the buttons and pockets which add a nice vintage vibe which is exactly how I like my outfits.

I decided to pair the denim skirt with my pinstripe shirt and then a belt to cinch in my waist. As for the sizing I recommend going a size up as this is an Asian site but the quality is amazing for the price of $12.99 . I look forward to purchasing more items on Shein, well that is when the naira dollar rate calms down.

Where would you rock this look to and how would you style this differently?

Hey guys! Happy new week, I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.

I'm so in love with Calabar, Cross River State. It makes life as a blogger so much sweeter and easier. Gosh, I'm talking great locations after locations. And the amazing things is nobody asks you too much questions. You walk in, take your pictures and go. No need to explain yourself which is a far cry from the situation in Abuja.

Today's picture spot, is in one the oldest schools in the country, Hope Wadell learning Institute. Apparently the school was built some hundred years ago and some of Nigeria's greatest leaders including Nnamdi Azikwie schooled here. In fact, the building I'm standing in front of was brought on a ship and installed in the school. Its now abandoned though, but I love the vintage feel it adds to the outfit, don't you? Now, I'm not trying to bore you with history lessons but what can I say I'm an explorer.

Anyways, if you've been following me for a while then you would know that I tend to shy away from body-con pencil skirts. As I mentioned in this post, I'm not a fan of the attention it draws to the body but today I decided to change things up. Hence I paired my grey pencil skirt (styled here and here) with a vintage shirt worn backwards. I then added my brown vintage belt and white pumps to finish the look.

Stay tuned for more ways of styling the shirt because you'll definitely be seeing a lot more of this item

We are living in dark times, my people. The word is sadly turning into something else. I don't even know what to say or where to begin. We all know what is going on in the world, racial killings in the United States, Boko Haram in Nigeria, ISIS in Syria, Bombing and natural disasters happening all around which are just a few of the many things going on.

I've never really been one to listen to news for the simple fact that it's too depressing but now it's my profession to stay informed. And each time I see these reports, I just get numb and feel helpless. My heart goes out to the people all around the world facing all these struggles.

I mean it's easy to post on social media  about the issues or write about it but what does it accomplish really? We saw what happened with the #Bringbackourgirls campaign for the missing 200 Chibok girls in Nigeria, the world forgot about it after a while. It seems like all we can do is pray and hope for a better tomorrow.

For
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that"

(Martin Luther King Jr.)

I honestly don't know what I'm trying to say in this post. I just know that I have to say something. My heart goes out to each and every one of you experiencing dark times. Take heart and comfort and don't lose hope because without hope life is meaningless. What I will say is that the end times are near people, turn to God and serve him more than ever. The Bible prophesies in Mark 13 and Mathew 24 have already come and gone.

"For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilence and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of Sorrow."

(Mathew 24: 7-8 NKJV)

Please, please make things right before it's too late.

Hey Beautiful people!
Happy New month again, how is it going so far?

The other day I was strolling on the road, listening to music while singing out loud and smiling. Then this stranger walks up to me and compliments me on my smile and voice.  The stranger then said something that I'll never forget "God puts beauty in the world to bring joy to the lives of people".  Beauty also reminds us of Gods awesomeness and faithfulness. So what does this mean? Well, do you have a beautiful voice? Then use it to pass an encouraging message. Do you have a beautiful smile? Then use it and make someone's day. You never know how your gift can positively impact someone Else's life. Let us learn to use our God given-gifts to bless people.

Now onto the outfit, you might remember this sweater from this look here and the vintage skirt from here. Today I decided to style both items in a khaki on khaki look which is perfect for the cold weather we've been experiencing in Calabar lately.

Sweater: Calabar || Skirt, Belt: Vintage || Shoes: Zara || Necklace: H&M

If I were to restyle this outfit, I think I would remove the necklace or maybe change the shoes? How would you style this outfit differently?

Happy New month and Welcome to the second half of 2016!
Wow how time flies, God has been so good. I still have lot to accomplish this year but thank God for everything!

In our society today it is very easy to get wrapped up in comparing ourselves to others. Social media which is both an inspiration and motivation is hurting the self confidence of a lot of people. It’s easy to feel bad when you see someone outrunning or outshining you but what we often forget is that Social Media is mostly contrived efforts to paint a picture of perfection.

The thing is, the only person you really should be competing with is the person you were yesterday. While it is important to occasionally compare ourselves so as to draw motivation and push ourselves, always remember that your step 1 cannot be compared to another person’s step 2. We all have our paths in life. For some people things come easier or quicker, while for others things take more time and effort.

I'm not going to lie, its hard out there trying to compete in a contrived world of perfection where you see people killing it and showing off. But this is why I feel it’s important to keep records of how far we've come so we can visibly see our progress. The other day I was just going through my blog, which is something I beat myself over at times. But looking back at how far I've come, I can say that I am proud of myself.

At this point in time in the year, it’s important to look back, reflect and push more than ever to be successful this year. I am confident that the ending of this year will be better than the beginning. The bible says it better.

"Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof"
(Ecclesiastes 7:8 NKJV)

What are you most accomplished about and how do you keep yourself from negative comparisons?
